It is said that "The Ego is not an innocent bystander"
The ego centric view of the world, which the Self perpetrates, is an obstacle to see the Absolute Truth as it is. In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj talks about how the spiritual progress can get hampered through too much Self Laudation. Plunging deep into the Name Worship Of Supreme Lord Shri Ram, the mind becomes subtle and learns to grasp subtle truths. By virtue of humble and loving devotion to the Lord Supreme, there is a revelation of our True Self which is pure, blissful and Eternal. He experiences the Spirit which functions through the mind. Illustrating with beautiful analogies, Sant Tukaram Maharaj says,
To refine gold, heat must be applied to force it's impurities to the surface until pure gold emerges. Similarly our lives is nothing but the way God subjects us to the heat and trials of our lives, thus exposing our weaknesses, our faults so that we ultimately emerge as Pure Gold. Sant Tukaram Maharaj says that when life gets hot and difficult, there is a tendency to run away from heat. However he implores that the seeker of Supreme Self must humbly and voluntarily submit to the heat, as it is the opportunity to get refined on the journey to Self Realisation.
Burdens of arrogance and pride are the primary reflections of body consciousness which accompany One even after death. Unless One makes a conscious effort to offload this unwanted baggage, it is a stumbling block on the journey of knowing Self. Sant Tukaram Maharaj says that waterweeds survive the river flood better than big trees which collapse and succumb to the force of flood water. In another analogy he says that a war elephant charges the enemy with powerful thrust and instilling terror. But an ant escapes from under his feet unscathed.
In another analogy he says, a diamond hides in the belly of the hammer and hence remains untouched and secure despite its strokes.
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says that unless the seeker makes a conscious effort to transcend beyond body centric thinking, he will forever remain in the captivity of evils like pride and arrogance. He says, humility is the gateway to seek the Supreme Self, the Eternal Divine. "
