It is said that
" We become what we yearn after "
The yearning for God is a shepherding of soul to seek His devotion. In prayer the Spirit reveals to us the ways of God. Happy are they who have a passion for God no less violent than that of a lover for his beloved. One can seek supreme Self only by being true to Self. The elaborate and flashy display of rituals and strict religious discipline is but worthless if it is not accompanied by intense longing for God.
Illustrating this with beautiful analogies, Sant Tukaram Maharaj says ,
An insane man having lost his equilibrium, is unable to experience joy even if he is offered good food and material comforts. For a blind man, a dance performance on the stage lit with bright lights is as absurd as seeking the devotion of Supreme Lord devoid of His intense longing.
A scarecrow is a dummy put in the field which resembles a human figure. It is set up to scare birds away from the field of growing crops. But the falsity of scarecrow gets revealed shortly and it is unable to provide desired protection effectively.
Reading mythology to a hearing impaired is as hollow as expecting a sick person to relish tasty food. Similarly rearing lust by an impotent man is as futile as the babbling of a man having no substance.
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says that for a limbless person regrets when he is unable to pluck a ripened fruit high up on a tree.
In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj has used the parallels of theTrueness of Self with Trueness of the Senses without which neither the Supreme Self nor the satisfaction of desires are attainable. He says that the devotee seeking Self realisation must inculcate from within a strong yearning for God founded on unshakeable faith and True love for the Supreme Divine."
