In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj talks about Duality.
Looking in the mirror what One sees is not the True Self but what he is conditioned to believe he is. The True Self is the Supreme Consciousness while the other is an illusion locked up by its own deemed and programmed limitations. As a result of forgetting our Oneness with Supreme Self, an illusory world of Duality is created which leades to all kinds of sufferings.
To understand or experience anything, we need to compare it with a parallel. This however brings us straight to the door of Duality. The Duality is all about comparison while Oneness is incomparable. One needs to transcend beyond the senses and Duality to seek Oneness.
It is said that " At a distance you only see my light. Come closer and know that I am you." It is then so true that all our relationships are but a reflection of ourselves.
All of us do experience random and unexpected glimpses of Oneness occasionally. Be it watching a beautiful sunset or meditation where we experience momentary Oneness with totality of universe.
All Duality is in the realm of thoughts.Oneness isn't just experiencing something, but it is a state of being.
A lighted lamp like Wisdom of Supreme Self, does not need another lamp to illuminate it's light. Transcendence or seeking Oneness is all about going beyond Duality.Oneness is the underlying essence of everything. Every single thing is an aspect of One Supreme Consciousness. In every moment of existence the whole of creation is constantly emerging from the silence of Oneness.
One sees Self in the mirror. Unless he makes a conscious effort to transcend beyond this paradox, the Duality will continue to haunt forever. "
