"As long as man is caught in the phenomenal world of transient objects and appearances and becomes attached to them, there is no escape from suffering. The suffering arises from our ignorant and desire laden actions. When the spiritual ignorance dims the intelligence, the desires and fear creep up and make their demand. The desires arise from our attachments to sense objects. The desires and fear are unfailingly followed by five evil passions - lust , anger, greed, emotional attachment and pride, with their numerous variations. In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj distinguishes One who is detached from within from One who is enslaved in illusory pursuits of Maya. The mind being the seat of all desires, it is the battlefield. He says the true enjoyment springs from freedom from desires and attachments. In the end it's all about how we look at things. Sant Tukaram has elucidated this with beautiful analogy. He says,
Status consciousness is deeply ingrained attribute. A man visits a household univited. His worldly status consciousness will not let him savour the meal offered to him. The status consciousness due to his education and wealth is so dominating that his ego will prevent him from doing a simple thing like savour food and relishing it.  However a  naive having unassuming nature is unpretentious and hence not a prisoner of such Self Proclaimed Status and hence leads a simple life.
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says that One must make a conscious effort of not getting trapped in the bondage of five evils, the five thieves as they will inevitably inculcate fear from within, forever. "
