"Your children, wife, brothers and sisters are not yours, for they manifest Life's longing for itself. Though they are with you, yet they belong not to you."
In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, just like what rises must set and what comes must go, so are our worldly relations who are like people incidentally together in a waiting room. He says, not the worldly relations but One's outlook towards them as "They are mine" is the root cause of all sufferings.
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, the True Renunciation is not running away from the society, but practicing detachment and patient self control so that One remains in the world, but not of the world.
Illustrating with meaningful analogy Sant Tukaram Maharaj says a clay pot is broken during cremation ritual in Hinduism. The breaking of pot symbolizes the breaking of existing relationship between the deceased and the mourner. Sant Tukaram Maharaj insists to practice it even when One is alive and break the pots of all his dear ones as if they are dead. In other words, One needs to cultivate detachment from within towards his family and worldly relations, for there is no True Renunciation without conscious detachment from worldly affairs."
