Every action has a reaction, for that is Nature's law of cause and effect. One has, therefore, to bear the fruit of his actions, sweet or bitter, whether he likes it or not. In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj has elucidated this thought. He says, our present life is the culmination of the seeds of Karma sown in our past lives, which are now bearing fruit. It is Prarabdha Karma which One has to live to be free from it. In the similar way what we will do in our present life will reflect as Prarabdha Karma in our next birth. Though what we did in our past lives cannot be undone, it is very much in our hands to be even in mind, word and deed in our present birth to reap its harvest in the next birth. He says, though we are free to choose, we are not free from the consequences of our choice.
Illustrating how Good Karma leads to bright ripening and Bad Karma leades to dark ripening, Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, Good Karma is like cultivating sugarcane crop, which leads to making of sugar and jaggery, while Bad Karma is like sowing onion in the same farm where sugarcane is cultivated, for the disagreeable and lingering odour of onion is unmistakable.
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, endowed with the sense of discrimination, man can judge for himself what is right and what is wrong, for it is up to him to make or mar his future, as he may."
