" It is said that in the state of Samadhi, it is not a condition of inertia, forgetfulness or annihilation. It is Absolute Consciousness which baffles all attempts of description. It is the final goal of all. The gateway of Liberation. In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj has illustrated it as a dialogue between One who is enjoying the Supreme Bliss Of Samadhi, a Transcended Soul, with her friend, who is in firm grip of worldly attachments. She says, through Yoga practice of Mul bandha (मूळ बंध)
she has attained Oneness with Supreme Consciousness by immersing in incessant Name  Worship of Supreme Lord Shr Ram, thus taming down the whirlpool of thought waves (वृत्ति) emanating from the mind ocean. She compares her Becoming One with sealing of an envelope by Lacquer which is fullproof and thorough.
मूळ बंध associates with मूलाधार चक्र , the lowest of the energy centres along the spine.  मूळ बंध is a practice of yoga for stabilizIng and calming the mind. It enhances the energy of concentration. Just like a Lacquer being highly inflammable consumes everything in its wake, the Holy Ram Nam consumes material consciousness. She says, her Self Becoming One with Supreme Self has transcended her from embodied soul to the state of Liberation, beyond the realm of endless cycles of deaths and rebirths. She earnestly urges her friend that considering the ephemeral nature of worldly existence, One needs to proceed consciously to rise above the worldly glitter and strive for the Higher State of Liberation. She suggests her friend to renounce her marriage with her body centric thinking while insists her to yearn for the Eternal Indweller residing within. A conscious effort of arresting the outward tendencies of mind will allow the mind to look inward, towards the Illuminated Self. She cautions her friend to beware of body consciousness which will writhe havoc if thought waves of mind are not controlled consciously. Unless desperate and deliberate efforts for Liberation are not done, the gruelling repetition of births will ensue forever. The human birth is rarest of rare opportunity to attain Self Realisation. However if it's paramount importance is not realised at the right time then all goes in vain, because in any other birth but human, there is no way out.
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says,
We are what we are looking for. It is all within, " here " and " now ". To know that Reality, no outside help or knowledge is needed. Everything converges and emanates from the Name Worship of Supreme Lord Shri Ram, the Secondless and Eternal Truth. "

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj elucidates with beautiful analogies how the "Vaishnavas" or devotees of Lord Vishnu excel others.

He says, just like a soil mixed with deer musk remains no ordinary soil or an ordinary iron touched by Paras Stone turns precious, so  to us are the "Vaishnavas" above all others, for they worship Lord Hari with One Pointed devotion."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, be my Savior O'Lord, for the surrendered me seeks You wholeheartedly. Be my helmsman O'Lord and take me across the sea of repeated sufferings, for the struggle for survival has enervated me.

He says, though all that I call of 'mine' is an illusion, my life was spent on giving a secured life to my wife and children and in the end it wearied me.

He says, my senses went berserk because I couldn't tether them to the pole of Your devotion. 

Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, the senses are lured by the charms around and the mind follows the suit. This is going on since time immemorial making the repeated sufferings inevitable. And therefore he says, save me O'Lord from this vicious cycle, for I am unable to mind my senses."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, O'Lord, the words which You are conveying to people through me make them sad because it's not what they want to hear. This rare human birth is a unique opportunity to seek GOD Realisation. But man does exactly opposite and gives more importance to material riches and his worldly relations than to the true purpose of this precious human birth.

Illustrating with a beautiful analogy of patient and doctor he says, man always strives for that which he likes to do the most.

He says, the patient shuts his mouth feeling the distaste of the bitter medicine given to him by doctor. He wants to eat that which the doctor has warned him to avoid and cries if someone tells him to refrain from eating what he wants to eat.

He says, the doctor's diagnosis knows no inhibitions, for life of patient is at stake if the patient does not follow what the doctor wants him to do.

He says, it's not what the patient wants to eat but what doctor wants him to eat, that is paramount, for adhering to doctor's instructions is the only way to recovery. 

Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, it is up to us what we want to attain, the recovery or GOD Realisation or the aggravation in the disease of the repeated sufferings."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, a truly fool ignores a Pathfinder who goes out of the way to discover a new path and leaves behind an easy trail for others to follow.

He says, never forget the goodness of a man dying of poison who bewares others about the poison or he who on the verge of getting drowned cautions others to stay away from water.

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, since the Feet of Sant were engraven in my heart, the sense of duality vanished and I became free from the gruelling cycle of repeated sufferings.

Fear is always "of something". In other words sense of two-ness is inherent in fear. He says, with the Realisation of GOD here, there, and everywhere, within this, that, and everything, the sense of two-ness cease to be and the.fearlessness dawned.

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, do good to others. It will come back in unexpected ways. It is our outlook that decides how we will be rewarded.

Illustrating with  beautiful analogies he says, rain showers at its own free will but it is the quality of soil and that of the seeds that decides the yield One gets out of it, for what One sows, so shall he reap.

In another analogy he says, the light of the lamp brightens the path without bias. It is least concerned of whether it comforts a pious soul or aids a burglar. It is the intention that decided the outcome One gets of his actions.

He says, One seeks food according to his liking. The food of Crows and Partridges differ from that of Swan, a mythological bird symbolising the Supreme Spirit, who is believed to eat pearls.

He says, a devotion to the Supreme Lord being the most cherished food of thought for His seeker rewards him with a blessing of eternal happiness forever

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj elucidates with meaningful analogies how vainly it is to hear a slave of senses talking about GOD Realisation.

He says, just like even a drop of liquor is enough to spoil a potful of milk, futile is to hear an egotist talking about devotion, wisdom and renunciation.

He says, just like the beauty is not perfect even if one of the thirty two parameters set for gauging physical attractiveness doesn't meet the standard, similarly for words of wisdom to reach the hearts of listeners, the exponent must have a perfect confluence of selfless devotion and renunciation. 

Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, just like a fly on food makes it unhealthy to eat, utterly futile is to follow the words of a slave of senses as words of Wisdom."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj elucidates how he entrusts himself upon Lord Panduranga.through His Name Worship.

He says, I meditate Your Feet O'Lord  instead of delving into what uplifts or what may cause my downfall, 

He says, I meditate Your Feet O'Lord, instead of giving thought about what I should do or what principles I must adhere to or how I should absolve myself of the sins already committed, 

He says, I meditate Your Feet O'Lord, because I do not understand what can be called as a noblest of virtue.

He says, I have entrusted myself entirely upon You O'Lord because the veil of ignorance doesn't let me comprehend Your Realisation.

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj sings praises of Pandharpur, the earthly Abode of Supreme Lord Hari.  Reiteratimg again and again he says, the resonating sound of "Hari Naam" reverberating in every nook and corner of Pandharpur makes it greater than the greatest and better than the best. 

Say "Pandhari" he says, and it will not allow the propensity of ill doings take its root.

He says, nothing is impossible for the One who enjoys the Divine Ecstasy of Pandharpur, yet he wants nothing but the Supreme Bliss emanating from it.

Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, if "Vaikuntha" is the Supreme Abode of Lord Hari then Pandharpur is better than that, for the name with which it is known in world, "Bhu-vaikuntha" is enriched by a prefix "Bhu".

"This composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj is a wake up call from the slumber of ignorance. He says, it is easy to wake up someone who is fast asleep but it is difficult to do the same for someone who pretends to be asleep. He says, this pretension is like downplaying the importance of this rare human birth and instead indulging in chasing the frivolous material pursuits.

He says, we have to choose between path of virtues or path of vices, for debauchery and speaking ill of the Wise is a sure way to downfall.

Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, "RamNam" incessantly in the tongue of thought makes this rare human birth worthwhile."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, practice makes man achieve things which otherwise seem impossible and unimaginable. Elucidating this thought with meaningful analogies he says, while many fear even to look at the deadly poisonous Bachanag, there are few who with sheer practice not only eat it but digest it as well.

In another analogy he says, while the deadly cobra terrorises many, there are few who master the art of holding it bare-handed.

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, speaking nothing but "Hari Naam" is the need of the hour and we intend to do it 'Here and Now" through the incessant Name Worship of GOD. 

He says, the words spoken with "Hari Naam" make an indelible impression just like a wall built on strong foundation is saved from subsidence,

He says, the time has come to stop the incessant accumulation of Sanchit Karma, which makes the repeated sufferings inevitable. We intend to do it once and for all in this life itself through "Hari Naam", the panacea of all sufferings."

शरण त्या संतां आल्या वेगीं II

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, there is no greater blessing than adorning the forehead with the dust of he, who paying the heed to the countless Wise since time immemorial, practices the True Renunciation, living in the world but not of the world.

He says, smear your forehead with the dust of he who has surrendered to Sant and has cast off lust and egotism inculcating tolerance for the onslaught of pleasant and unpleasant experiences, for he is truly the most eligible for Spiritual Liberation or GOD Realisation."

माझे चित्त तुझे पायी I

राहे ऐसे करी कांही I

धरोनिया बाही I

भव हा तारी दातारा II

चतुरा तू शिरोमणी I

गुणलावण्याची खाणी I

मुगुट सकळां मणि I

धन्य तूंचि विठोबा II

करी या तिमिराचा नाश I

उदय होऊनि प्रकाश I

तोंडी आशापाश् I

करी वास हृदयी II

पाहे गुंतलो नेणतां I

माझी असो तुम्हां चिंता I

तुका ठेवी माथा I

पायीं आतां राखावे II


"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, O'Lord do something so that my attention remains riveted at Your Feet.

He says, become my helmsman O'Lord and carry me across the sea of repeated sufferings once and for all.

He says, You are the zenith of Wisdom O'Lord Vithoba, the Greater than the Greatest and Higher than the Highest. The noblest of all vitues You are O'Lord , for Your Sublime beauty neither fades nor is lost in the withering touch of years. 

He says, let You dwell in my heart O'Lord and not the attachment to material pleasures and  let the shining light of Your Divine Wisdom dispel the darkness of my ignorance.

Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, I fall at Your Feet O'Lord and implore You earnestly to save me from getting drowned in the abyss of ignorance, the root cause of all sufferings."

एकाचि वचने सकळांसी I

मेघवृष्टी कांही न विचारी ठाव I

जैसा ज्याचा भाव तैसे फळे II

तुका म्हणे नाही समाधाने चाड I

आपणाही नाड पुढीलांसी II


"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, all that we want to speak comes out of our mouth as "Hari Naam". 

He says, "Hari Naam" falling upon the ears is like rain showers pouring equally everywhere.Just like it is the good seed that gives bountiful harvest, it is the state of mind that decides what the "Hari Naam" falling upon the ears will do to man.In other words whether it will fall on deaf ears or not."

वाचेचिया आळा कवळीले ब्रम्ह I

चुकविता श्रम पृथक तो II

सुलभ ते झाले सुलभ ते झाले I

जवळी ते आले पंढरिये II

नामरूपाचे बांधले मोटले I

एक एका वेळे सारियेले II

तुका म्हणे वाटे चुकली वसती I

उद्धार तो हाती आणियेला II


"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, we dont need  the myriad of ways of GOD Realisation, for the harvest of 'Hari Naam' is abound on the seedbed of our tongue.

Reiterating twice he says, things have become easy since we are very near Pandharpur, the  Abode of Lord Hari.

He says, instead of little at a time of "Hari Naam" in each birth, we completed the Name Worship of Lord Hari entirely in this birth itself, thus saving us from the gruelling cycle of repeated sufferings once and for all."

भुंकूनिया सुने लागे हत्तीपाठी I

होऊनि हिंपुटी दुःख पावे II

काय त्या मशके तयाचे करावे I

आपुल्या स्वभावे पीडतसे II

माकड विटवी पंचानना I

घेतले मरणा घेतले तेणे II

तुका म्हणे संतां पीडितील खळ I

येती तोंड काळे करुनियां II


"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, history is replete with examples where all attempts of annoying and tormenting a "Sant" always go in vain, for while the "Sant" who lives in the world but not of the world remains unperturbed, the suffering boomerangs on the perpetrator or in other words the hunter becomes the hunted.

Illustrating this with beautiful analogy he says, an elephant never minds a barking dog. Nevertheless the dog keeps on barking even with no reaction from elephant and gets tired in the end.

In another analogy he says, a monkey teasing a lion puts his life in peril."

किती वेळा जन्मा यावे I

किती व्हावे फजीत II

म्हणऊनी जीव भ्याला I

शरण गेला विठोबासी II

प्रारब्ध हे पाठी गाढे I

न सरे पुढे चालतां II

तुका म्हणे रोकडी हे I

होती आहे फजिती II


"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, each moment of our life, we are not only living the fruits of the past actions, but also creating those of tomorrow and so ensues the cycle of death and rebirth which is going on since time immemorial and which seems to have no end. 

And therefore he says, I surrender to Lord Vithoba and give up the sense of doership to allow my remaining Karma to work itself out without creating new Karma, thereby stopping the Karmic debt accumulating, the root cause of repeated sufferings."

तुका म्हणे मागे पावले उद्धार I

तींही आधार ठेविलासे II


"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, without discrimination I apprised all  the numinous sound 'Ram-Krishna-Hari' that reverberates in me from  deep within.

He says, I put my mind on the brick on which stands My Beloved Lord Panduranga and meditate His Name as steadfastly as He standing there  resolutely since time immemorial.

He says, holding the rope of absolute faith in Lord Panduranga, I waded the ocean of repeated sufferings once and for all.

He says, history is replete with examples of countless who attained GOD Realisation walking  the path of 'Hari Naam'. All we have to do is start walking on it, for well begun is half done."

विश्वासियां जवळी II

काही न मागतां भले I

होईल तेचि काम केले I

नसावे आथिले I

कांही एका संकल्पे II

पावविल ठायाठाव I

एकविध जीव I

ठेविलियां सेवेसी II


"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, to belittle, you have to be little. 

He says, amidst the trials of life surrender to My Beloved Lord Panduranga with all your heart and submit to Him unconditionally, for He keeps His trusted by His side and bestows upon them His Realisation, an art of living in the world but not of the world.

He says, praying without expectation is supreme, for nothing remains hidden from GOD.

Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, One pointedness is truly the quintessence of True devotion, for in whose heart dwells One Pointed devotion to Lord Panduranga, He enters their heart abandoning His Abode."

तोचि एक दानशूर दाता II

मनाचे संकल्प पावविल सिद्धी I

जरी राहे बुद्धि याचे पायी II

तुका म्हणे मज धाडिले निरोपा I

 मारग हा सोपा सुखरूप II


" In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, with 'Hari Ras' in me, I have lost all other appetites. And therefore he says, I want all to have this extremely sweet and all absorbing elixir to live in perpetual peace and ecstasy.

He says, the balance of mind needed for the one pointed devotion should be like the Supreme Giver Lord Vithoba standing hands akimbo on a brick, steadfastly ever ready to pour His Grace.

Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, Lord Vithoba has sent me to you to deliver His message that 'Hari Naam' is the most easy way to His Realisation."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, pure and tasty food is that which keeps One from getting fed up of eating it and which harms him in no way.

He says, just like not all that glitters is gold, rare is a thing that is as promising from within as it appears attractive from outside.

Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, Truth never gets old nor rusty."
