"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, GOD Realisation being the True Purpose of this rare human birth, he aspires to make an offering of  himself at His Feet, for when His Feet become fully manifest within, One transcends the ocean of repeated sufferings forever. His Feet are like the helmsmen to ferry us across this ocean of oceans.
He says, despite  his long and ceaseless wanderings since time immemorial, the way out of the endless sufferings seems to be unfathomable to him. And therefore he calls upon GOD, for He never disappoints a prayer from bottom of heart from the One who believes in Him and Him alone, unconditionally."

"Karma has no menu. You get served what you deserve."
As man sows so shall he reap says Sant Tukaram Maharaj in this composition, for Virtues give happiness. Vice gives pain.
One can strive for Self Realisation or simply chase frivolous material pursuits, for it is all in our hands how we make use of the precious human birth we have.
Illustrating with beautiful analogies Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, Sprinkling the Sacred Waters of Holy Ganga or taking a dip in it is believed to absolve One of his wrongdoings in the past. Instead if he drowns himself in these waters, all will go in vain.
Fire says, touch me and you will burn, for it is up to us what we wish to derive, joy or suffering.
Mirror is a true friend, for when man cries, it doesn't laugh.
Be Determined, not stubborn on the Self Quest, says Sant Tukaram Maharaj, for every choice we make, the consequences are inevitable.

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, Truly Wise is the One who remains absorbed in the Name Worship of GOD Vithoba incessantly, for nothing grows brighter than the heart awakened to the light of love that lives within it.
He says, the Wise sees the Supreme Truth Vitthal revealed in everything, everywhere equally. In other words for him there is no place and there can be no place where GOD Vasudev is not.
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, Rare it is to find a Truly Wise, for only GOD's Grace can make it happen. Just like the lowly trees in the vicinity of Sandalwood become fragrant, the company of Wise brings out good from within, letting go of the undesirables."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, the Senses started quarrelling with each other about their share of experiencing GOD from their own point of view.
Talking to Tongue, Ears said, Hands, Legs and Forehead are not so lucky as you, for only you are Truly Blessed to experience fulfillment through the Name Worship of GOD.
The sweet nectar of His Name is tasted by Tongue and His stories are treasured by Ears but not so fortunate are Eyes and other Senses whose longing for GOD  remains unfulfilled.
And therefore Sant Tukaram Maharaj aspires GOD Realisation, so that seeking Him in part will cease and each sense will absorb Him as a Whole in its own way, nothing more, nothing less."

"We, with our limited worldly perspective, can only have a small understanding of GOD, the Infinite, for He is a mystery that cannot be canned or crated no matter how much we try. Despite this we envisage Him, whom our limited speech cannot describe, and our limited faculty of seeing cannot behold. This thought is elucidated by Sant Tukaram Maharaj in this composition.
O' GOD, he says, paradoxical it is to worship You as a small idol when the All pervading and All Enveloping Gargantuan You hold within the Fourteen Worlds.
We praise You by singing and dancing, but You cannot be understood in a state of separation but only by Realisation
O' GOD, he says, we sing Your glory but You dwell in the heart where praise is, for in the silence of heart GOD speaks.
He says, we wear garlands of Tulsi leaves to please GOD. We do it because we think it pleases Him who doesn't ask for anything.
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj aspires to experience the transcendent glory of GOD unfolding in his very rare human birth."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, GOD as Truth, has been for him a Treasure unparalleled, for the man who has GOD for his Treasure has all things in One, forever.
Illustrating with beautiful analogies he says, futile it is to ask for the throne of GOD Indra, which is not perpetual, for even an ordinary man can attain it.
Futile it is to ask for the position of Dhruva, who is placed high in the sky by Supreme GOD Vishnu as a Pole Star, to stay fixed in that position for a complete Kalpa or period of 4.32 billion solar years.
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, to ask for Heavenly Abode is futile because it is lost as soon as One's accumulated virtues exhaust, which he needs to accumulate again to be back in Heaven.
He says, fruitless is to ask for the boon of immortality when it is the Eternal Truth that the soul is immortal.
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, rather than aspiring to go to Vaikuntha, the Abode of Supreme  GOD Vishnu, he aspires to become One with the All Pervading Eternal that persists in all its splendour behind all the multiplicity of this manifold universe."

Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, just like a Truth is never erased by a falsehood, the fires of True Renunciation cannot be quelled by fictitious water pools of 'I', 'Me', 'Mine' which are nothing but a Mirage in desert or That Which  Is Not.
He says, in the sway of our ignorance of identifying us with our body, we are unable to apprehend the reality and tend to take the falsehood as the Truth, which becomes the root cause of all our sufferings.
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, Detachment from worldly attractions is a far away thing till we act like a scent crazed deer searching for musk in the bushes."

"This composition of Sant Tukaram Maharaj is about the wisdom dawned on him in the company of Spiritually Wise.
He says, nobody hands over an 'Extraordinary' on a silver platter, for One needs to get out of his comfort zone and do big Sacrifices to earn it. So is GOD Realisation, he says, which is not something to be pursued in the spare time while doing worldly chores, but One needs to make a conscious effort of offering the sense of "I, Me, Mine," to GOD as a Sacrifice. The Noble Sacrifice of giving up false ego sense is paramount for the Highest Reward, the GOD Realisation.
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, life is short. No one knows when death will knock on the door. However One cares for his body, it is going to betray in the end, for the repeated sufferings are inevitable unless One dares to renounce "I am the body" idea.
He says, wasting this rare human birth for nurturing body consciousness is like living of a prostitute who earns her living by selling her body.
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, just like a kingdom is never offered as alms, but the brave wins it by fighting fierce battles, GOD Realisation doesn't happen all of a sudden, One needs to pursue it wholeheartedly in countless lifetimes."

"In the end GOD is the Knower, the Known, and the Knowledge, while we are merely part of the known."
In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, GOD knows everything. He sees the things we do, and also sees the thoughts, intention and desires that make us do these things, for no plan is ever secret from Him.
He says, GOD looks deep down in the recesses of our minds, into the heart and soul of each of us. No disguise can fool Him, for He sees underneath our pretensions. Offerings are Blessed when they are given out of selfless love, for we receive according to what we offer GOD.
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, the Supreme Reality which cannot be apprehended by mind, but by which the mind is apprehended cannot be confined within the worldly limits, for GOD can only be experienced."

" Little salt makes food tasty. Instead of using the Self Quest (Salt) to make our Worldly Life (food) tasty, the seeker of Self Realisation  must have the Self Quest (food) made tasty by the Worldly Life (Salt). In other words, Self Realisation is not something to be pursued in the spare time, but it must become One's goal to make his rare human birth fruitful.
In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, the Truly Blessed, who realises that the sole purpose of his precious human birth is GOD Realisation, must initiate others on this path of contemplative prayer and listen intently if someone is narrating the story of GOD. Nothing goes in vain, be it the effort of narrator or of the listener, for it sows the seeds of devotion in both from deep within.
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, the journey into the uncharted territory of our inner landscape is not for the faint hearted, for One needs warrior's heart on his journey of Self Realisation.
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, it may take this lifetime and many more to comprehend the experience of Self Realisation, but it is the only way One can transcend the otherwise inescapable cycle of deaths and rebirths, the repeated sufferings."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, Prarabdha Karma is but a part of the accumulation of good and bad deeds which stands to man's credit from all his past lives. One has to live it to exhaust it, for no matter how bitter or sweet, none can avoid reaping the harvest already sown.
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, though we are all children of GOD, each one of us have our own destiny or Prarabdha Karma which makes us different from one another just like pots made by a potmaker, for all come out of a firing pit, but one is used for cooking and other is used to throw away the faeces.
In another analogy he says, Diamonds and stones are both found in a quarry, but One is priceless and other is price less.
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, we cannot change the Prarabdha with which we are born, but shaping it in our future lives is very much in our hands by making a conscious effort to remain absorbed in the Name Worship of GOD, for it is the only way to transcend the body bound  'I-ness' and hence escape the otherwise invincible Karmic Cycle."

"In this composition of Sant Tukaram Maharaj talks about what happens when GOD's Grace or His Unfailing Love manifests.
He says, it is by the Grace of GOD Narayan that One  perceives the universe as no other that the Self and therefore knows no misery in the world, for the whole universe is filled with him alone.
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, it is by His Grace that One looks within for his Self Quest instead of seeking True Happiness outside.
He says, it is the Grace of GOD that makes One a visionary to see his rare human birth as a conduit to Self Realisation.
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, the distinctions which we see all around us is but an illusion of duality. The distinctions disappear when the duality is transcended, and the Self is Realised. Just like the Supreme Indweller, His Grace is also within, Its up to us to remove the veil of ignorance to make His Grace shine forth in all its magnanimity."

He says, the Holy places are made of mere stones, but GOD is in Wisdom and in the pious.
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, waste not this rare human birth by being lazy and ignorant of its true purpose, the Self Realisation, for the gateway to end the repeated sufferings is in Pilgrimage Pandharpur where GOD Vithoba stands hands akimbo on a brick accompanied by his consort Rakhumai.
He says, Desirelessness pervades where a large gathering of pious souls repeat GOD Name with tongue of thought and loving devotion.

Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, a strong man will be unable to do anything if One holds his feet firmly. Here  the feet being lowliest of limbs, holding them firmly symbolizes becoming Humble. Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, except the journey within, all the ritualistic endeavors need support from others in some way or other. Wanting just leads to more wanting, and there is no end to desire.

He says, the Exponent must avoid eating food at the place of Kirtan and must go to the place where he performs Kirtan on his own without expecting conveyance.

Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, nothing in this world belongs to us, for we came into the world with nothing, and will leave with nothing. GOD Realisation is transcending the duality of "Me and Mine", a difficult but not impossible endeavor in this very rare human birth, the gateway to Liberation."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj talks about Contemplative Worship in which we quiet ourselves in order to open our hearts to the Divine Presence within us.
He says, GOD adores the Contemplative Worship most, for it is a time of silence, contemplation and prayer that draws us closer to GOD.
He says, the rituals and all that we offer GOD during worship is but our assumption that He likes it, but we seldom give a thought to what GOD adores the most, the giving up of "I am the doer" idea which He wants us to offer Him.
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, the mask can fool the world but not GOD, the Knower of past, present and future. God has given us one face, it is unforgiven if we make ourself another."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, the devotion to the Name Worship of GOD Vithoba is nothing but devotion to His Feet. And hence he urges his ignorant Self to learn to fall at His Feet, for they are the helmsmen to ferry us across the ocean of sufferings.
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, often One sees the Self Realisation as something to be pursued in the old age, forgetting that he may not have one, And therefore he urges everyone to get together and get moving on our Self Quest 'Here and Now', for we do not know of what may unfold in the next moment.
He says, Blessed is the doer as well as the One who encourages him to do the Name Worship of GOD, for the Divine link between man and his maker realise only the Immaculately Pure Supreme."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, just like  things look tempting when they are far away, but the story is very different from close quarters, the True Devotion is much easier to be talked about than be lived.
Illustrating with beautiful analogy he says, it is like listening to war stories from comfort of home, which is very different from being on the battlefield where death lurks behind every moment.
He says, rare is a True Devotee who dares to walk his talk and  brings about the transformation from within believing that Truth is inside and Self Realisation is a journey inward to connect with the Truth.
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, GOD has no place left in a heart, made home by "I am the body" idea. And hence unless One makes a conscious effort to vacate his heart and drives out this imposter,  the "I am the body" idea, the heart cannot have its true occupant, the Supreme Indweller GOD."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, a pure drop of rain falls from sky and becomes muddy when it touches ground. In other words the pure rain drop gets conditioned by mixing with matter, thus loosing its purity. Similarly the Soul which pulsates as "I am He" or "Pure Consciousness is I am "in mother's womb becomes conditioned as soon as it comes in contact with material nature, reiterating "I am the body" idea, thus giving rise to Duality or Material Consciousness.
He says, the greatest illusion of this world is the illusion of separation, the things that seem to be separate and different are actually one and the same,
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, it is verily through the  ignorance that the universe exists. In reality Supreme Consciousness alone exists. It is the Supreme Truth untainted by impurity of "I"or "Me" or "Mine", for once this Truth is realised, it shines forever without setting."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, nothing but absorption in the 'Divine Name' is a way to GOD Realisation, for it bears fruits in abundance.
He says, GOD Realisation is about making a conscious effort to change and be that change first in this very rare human birth, else One knows not when he will get this opportunity again
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, just like in a crowd, the Name is enough to identify someone whose face we cannot recollect, so is the Divine Name, when uttered with utmost devotion, brings GOD along with it, for Name and Named are no different.
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj wishes the Lotus Feet of GOD to become fully manifest within him and he be engaged in His meditation so long as the life breath lasts."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, Blessed is he who remains absorbed in the Name Worship of GOD Vithoba. He says, all endeavors such as rosary, penances, a life of solitude in the deep recesses of the forests, deeds of charity and many more do not come up to the merit of chanting "Ram- Krishna- Govinda", the noblest of all virtues, for One who devotes himself wholeheartedly to this practice begins to unravel the mystery of Self and GOD and begins to see the All Pervading Truth both within and without.
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, the Blessed who remains absorbed in the Name Worship of GOD  knows no misery in the world, for the whole universe is filled with him alone."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, whatever we experience depends upon the yearnings of our mind or Sankalpas. The thought (Sankalpas) bears fruit  according to the seed from which it springs. In other words to harvest Self Realisation, One must cultivate Good Sankalpas or to make willful determination untouched by doubt to practice the Name Worship of GOD incessantly.
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, the Good Sankalpas depend on how One perceives his human birth, as a means of sense gratification or as a means to strive for Self Realisation.
He earnestly urges the seeker of Self Quest to Love the Divine Name and absorb in it before the time runs out and before it is too late, else it will be a long and gruelling wait through 8.4 million species to get the next human birth again, a finest conduit to Self Realisation."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, O' GOD, let me not be in the company of those who want to spend their rare human birth on mundane existence than pursuing the journey of Self Realisation.
Illustrating this with beautiful analogies he says, keeping the company of Unwise is as futile as serving sweets to animals or smearing sandalwood paste on a donkey.
He says,  it is as pointless as giving luxuries to a monkey, for it knows neither the worth of a soft bed nor ornaments,
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, just like milk offered to a snake becomes poison in the end, the seeker of Self Quest must refrain from keeping the company of Unwise, for just like all looks yellow to the jaundiced eye, they know not what unique opportunity they are wasting, their rare human birth."

"This composition of Sant Tukaram Maharaj is about the the Knower of Truth who are in the world but not of it.
He says, "Ra" means Moksha or Liberation and "Dha" means striving for that, together they make "Radha", the One striving for being Liberated from the repeated sufferings. The Blessed is Radha, who symbolizes all those women of Gokul who remained absorbed in GOD Krishna while doing their day to day chores.
Elucidating the thought  "the mind open to everything, but attached to nothing", Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, it is living amidst the worldly hubbub, but remaining unattached by it, just as a lotus flower remains untouched by the mud.
He says, Self Quest is like walking on a tight rope, a balancing act between turning inward and  focusing outward, for the Rare One who keeps balance fuels life with hope of Self Realisation.
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, Blessed are those who make every moment of their rare human birth count, as an opportunity for GOD Realisation, for the Divine Grace does not let their efforts go in vain."
