"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, ecstasy of Supreme Bliss has come true as the Lotus Feet of Saints come to abide in my mind.

I am at loss for words to express the feeling of contentment from deep within when my long cherished wish to fall at the Feet of the Truly Wise who lives in the world but not of the world is fulfilled."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, going to pilgrimage is not merely going away but it is about coming home, for those who choose to go on a pilgrimage have already ventured away from themselves and  set out to journey back to who they are. Going to Pandharpur, the earthly abode of Lord Panduranga is about unburdening the baggage of "Me, Mine and My relatives" upon Him, for Name, Fame and material riches do not lure him whose false ego sense has cease to exist.

Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, unlikely is doing bad deed while doing the Name Worship of Lord Panduranga and therefore  going to Pandharpur, the Abode of Lord Pandueanga  becomes an excellent opportunity not to let grow big the mountain of inner filth that has been accumulating since time immemorial."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, falling in love with the Feet of Lord Vithoba is the most exalted in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, for the sweet remembrance of His Name alone grants merit of all austerities, pilgrimages, acts of charity and devotion. His comings and goings, doubts and fears come to an end, as One remains absorbed in the Name Worship of GOD Panduranga, for the noblest of all virtues roasts the seeds of ignorance.

He says, there is no auspicious time for reciting 'Hari Naam' than "Here and Now".

Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, GOD Realisation is no myth for those who call upon Him with True Longing, for GOD gives back in multifolds to those who dare to give up the wanting that plagues the mind."

"O'Man says Sant Tukaram Maharaj in this composition, if you want to harness the true power of mind,  sit still and do the name worship of GOD as much as possible, for the spring of True Happiness never dries when GOD makes your heart His home.

He says, Nameless is GOD and yet all names are His, for whatever name we choose, it will not fail to do the wonder if it comes out with the true longing from deep within.

He says, the world reveres those who seek GOD Realisation through the path of sweet remembrance of His Name,, for the noblest of all virtues alone purifies the mind and bears fruits in abundance."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, Fear and True Devotion do not go together, for Lord Hari is ever there for His humble devotee who seeks Him with One Pointed Devotion.

He says, Worry and True Devotee also do not go together, for GOD turns battles into blessings for he who turns worry into worship."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, to end the repeated sufferings once and for all, One needs to be in communion with GOD through various practices such as meditation, limiting one's desires, carrying out one's daily duties with detachment, abiding to the moral code, being frugal in food and sleep and keeping company of the Wise, for it is not possible for all except a rare soul.

And therefore he says, we all must be grateful to the devotee Pundalik who has shown us an easy way to attain Liberation by visiting Pandharpur, the earthly manifestation of Vaikuntha, the Abode of Liberated Souls."

He says, talking without saying anything meaningful is more tiring than rejuvenating.

"In an expression of describing the feeling of Oneness with Lord Krishna, Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, the Lord is my father, my mother and my siblings. My guide is He and He is the means to help me cross the ocean of repeated sufferings once and for all.

He says, my heart is Krishna, my contemplation is He, and my best friend is none other than He.

Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says my greatest solace is Krishna and I sincerely wish not to part a part of Him from Him."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, the True Worship is all about the pure adoration and not about the embellishments, for GOD is not moved or impressed with our worship until our hearts are moved and impressed by Him.

The True Worship can never be a performance, its about getting personal with GOD, drawing close to Him. And therefore he says, beware of ritualistic worship which often gives undue importance to the procedure than the very essence, God Realisation. 

He says, none are more adorable to me than those who are absorbed in the Name Worship of Supreme Lord Vishnu, living in the world but not of the world."

In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj condemns a hypocrite who while proclaims that he is content with whatever comes his way without demanding it, aspires to get it through his disciples. 

He says, there is no greater mockery of sainthood than pretending to be One, for the only way the boat made of stone can sail ahead is by "getting drowned".

"This composition of Sant Tukaram Maharaj is his musings conveyed through a letter to Lord Krishna by the hands of a pilgrim on his way to Mathura, His Abode. 

I prostrate before You O' Lord, for the worldly me is nothing but the manifestation of Your Grace.

O' Lord Narayan he says, the sweet remembrance of Your Name stirs my deepest longing for You and therefore it is my sincere hope that the trueness of my feelings reach You."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, bathing in the Sacred Waters of River Chandrabhaga is in itself no less than the merit earned by visiting of all the pilgrimages.

He says, One is absolved of all sins when  he visits Pandharpur, the earthly abode of Supreme Lord Hari.

He says, visiting the temple of Pundalik is alone equivalent to merit of dust at the Feet of myriad of the Enlightened Beings.

He says, nothing is more fulfilling and worthwhile than beholding the Divine Beauty of Lord Vitthal standing hands akimbo on a brick, for it is the crowning fruition of all endeavors."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, more than the self gratification the happiness we feel when we bring joy to others is the greatest happiness in the world.

He says, while the True Worship of GOD is safeguarding the very existence of all beings without distinction, there is no panacea for enmity which brings only sorrow.

He says, One must keep to himself his personal likes or dislikes and not let them influence his interaction with others, for Lord Hari encompasses the world entire.

He says, the Enlightenment dawns when all around One sees no individual soul but the Supreme Soul, for he has reached the crowning fruition of all endeavors, GOD Realisation."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, take a pair of clash cymbal in hand and say GOD Name Vitthal out loud assuming the instrument itself as He.

He says, everything unfolds by His Will and therefore fail not of reminding Him fondly, saying 'Vitthal', again and again.

He says, blessed is the One who utters 'Hari Naam' inadvertently and sees Lord Vitthal here, there, and everywhere, within this, that and everything transcending all duality.

He says, my mouth has become habitual of saying 'Vitthal' all the time, for He dwells in my tongue of thought incessantly, no matter in what state I am in, joy or sorrow."

In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, alone the Name Worship of GOD Vithoba achieves that which cannot be earned by myriad of other means, His Realisation, for GOD manifests Himself as ' Hari Naam.'

O'My Mind, he says, let you ever remain engaged in 'Hari Naam' and not let anything else sway you away from His Name Worship.

He says, One absorbed in the Name Worship of GOD needs no external expression of his inner resolve, for not only at his beck and call are the eight mysteriously magical Divine powers but the True Liberation itself follows his footsteps."

He says, 'Hari Naam' never fails to work its miracle, no matter in what manner One pronounces His Name.

Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, there is no greater realisation than GOD Name Vithoba, the very Genesis of the Tree of Life, revealing itself as our True Self, "

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, man falling prey to worldly pleasures and who follows an instinct rather than reasoning or discernment is more animal like, no matter how learned he may be.

He says, a Truly Wise stops short when it comes to revealing the innermost secrets, while the One who is eager to share his bookish knowledge devoid of experience is just like the blind leading the blind, for both fall into a ditch."

In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, there is no such thing as the right time for doing the Name Worship of GOD, for the moment spent in the sweet remembrance of His Name is the most auspicious.

He says, Blessed is the mouth that utters the Name of GOD incessantly and attuned to Lord Hari enjoys an unceasing Bliss day and night, living in the world but not of the world."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, the five evil passions Lust, Anger, Greed, Attachment to worldly things and Pride are nothing but thieves ever ready to rob One of his inner peace. And therefore he says, seek GOD Realisation without wasting the precious moments of this rare human birth while these thieves are fast asleep or in other words while these five evil passions are most subdued, for the fickle mind that continuously runs after fleeting things and is intoxicated with worldly love and emotional attachment remains ever unsatisfied and begs for more.

Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, life is uncertain and the causes of death are innumerable.  One is born from suffering, dies suffering and between the two the pursuit of happiness often ends in sufferings. And therefore wake up he says from the slumber of ignorance and make most of this rare human birth, for the fountainhead of True Happiness devoid of sufferings is GOD Realisation."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, contact with 'Hari Naam' at once reduces to ashes the storehouse of Sanchit Karma, the good or bad deeds that stand to man's credit as earned in all the previous existences in the order of creation, just as a spark of fire reduces to ashes an entire forest. In other words just like the seed grains fried in a pan get puffed up and hence lose their fecundity or power to bear fruit, the Sanchit Karma can be seared and scorched with the fire of 'Hari Naam' and hence rendered harmless for the future. And therefore he says, waste not a moment of this rare human birth without constant contemplation of His Feet, for the quality of harvest depends on the quality of the seeds sown.

Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, the sweet remembrance of 'Hari Naam' cleanses the mirror of mind making all the doubts and distractions disappear, for it alone can transform sinners to saints."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, words are too inadequate a medium to comprehend the greatness of an Enlightened Being, for doing so will be nothing but words empty of substance.

Illustrating with beautiful analogy he says, just like not every cow who yields plentiful milk can be called a Sacred Cow Kamdhenu, merely clothing with epithets doesn't elevate One to the Enlightenment.

Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, it is only Great Souls that know how much glory there is in being good."

Illustrating with beautiful analogy he says, the face that looks into the mirror stares back cold bloodedly, for Mirrors Don't Lie."

In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj  says, countless die all around everyday, yet One who is blinded by ignorance feels it is not about him, for he wastes his rare human birth chasing frivolous material pursuits rather than seeking the Self Realisation, the true purpose of his existence.

 Illustrating with beautiful analogy he says, the mythological 'Paras Stone' transforms an ordinary metal into precious gold but unable to work the  miracle on the broken piece of a clay pot. Similarly even the rare human birth will be useless if One lacks the awareness of its importance in the journey of Self Realisation.

Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, just like man becomes what he thinks, an ignorance breeds ignorance."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, those who contemplate GOD Hari all the time enjoy the ecstasy of highest kind, for they dwell in the land where the Sun of Virtues never sets.

He says, Lord Hari wields the invincible celestial weapon 'Sudarshan Chakra' to keep out of harm's way those who are absorbed in His Name Worship incessantly.

He says, the longing of Lord Hari to His True Devotee is so great that He minds not becoming even his humble servant."

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj illustrates with beautiful analogies his intense longing to remember GOD amidst worldly obligations.

He says, among many women around, a child longs for mother, as she is.

He says, no woman can feel for the child so intensely as the One who has borne the child. "

थोडे तुम्ही मागे होते उद्धरिले I

मज ऐसे गेले वायां जीव II

आता याचा कांही न मानावा भार I

कृपेचा सागर आहेसी तूं II

तुज आळवितां पापाची वसति I

राहे किती अंगी बळ त्याचे I

तुका म्हणे जैसे तारिले दगड I

तैसा मीही जड एक देवा II

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, since time immemorial You have been a beacon of hope O' Lord for the likes of me who went astray in the darkness of ignorance.

He says, the sin is bound to leave me as soon as I take refuge at Your Feet O' Lord, for You and sin cannot coexist.

He says, the history is replete with examples where You made huge boulders float on water, surely then I can hope, for Your Grace knows no bounds."

काळाच सारिखी वाहती नक्षत्रे I

करितां दुसरे फळ नाही II

ऐसे करत्याने ठेविलें करून I

भरिले भरून माप नेमे II

शीतउष्णकाळी मेघ वरुषांव I

वरषतां वाव होय शीण II

तुक म्हणे विष अमृताचे किडे I

पालट न घडे जीणे तयां II

"GOD has set a particular order for the things to unfold in His Creation. Natural rhythms guide all that we do, our very existence. Our breath and heartbeat are constant reminders of life's pulsing rhythm that moves within and around us, and 'Time' is no exception to it. However if there is any disturbance in it, then only chaos ensues. In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj elucidates this thought.

He says, the Vedic Scriptures have described Time to be consisting of

*A Tithi (Lunar day)

*A Paksha (Lunar fortnight) consisting of 15 Tithis

* A Masa (Lunar month) 30 days

* A Rutu (Season) is 2 Masa

* An Ayana is 3 Rutu

* A Year is 2 Ayanas

There are 27 Nakshatras or Constellations, the Lunar sectors which cover the Ecliptic, the great circle on the celestial sphere representing the sun's apparent path during the year. It is believed that Zodiac of Moon is divided into 27 equal divisions and each segment is called 'group of stars' 'Nakshatras' or 'Constellation' and they are spread across the 12 Zodiac Signs. Zodiac is the imaginary band centred on the Ecliptic that encompasses the apparent paths of all the planets. 

He says, the cycle of crops gets disturbed if there are rains in summer or winter.

Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, just like pests bred in poison die when put in Amrut or the other way round, contrary to the ordinary course of nature brings only sufferings."

It is said that "Without Purity in the Vital Tree of Blood, there can Never be Purity of thought and if your blood is being processed through organs that hold memories of stench and decay, so you will battle with your mind's Impure thoughts." In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj talks about conscious cultivating of the mind soil, as Purity of Heart is gateway to GOD.
Just like Gardening, when you plant a vegetable seed, the "fruits" of the seed will totally depend on how you prepare the soil, and how you nourish and support the growing seedling into its adulthood.
Gardening is a process of continual weeding, of pulling out of the roots of all the foreign plants that might choke the seedling to death or might stunt or distort it's growth. Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, One needs to consciously cultivate the soil of the mind on his journey of Self Realisation. This Self Quest is all about looking within, pulling out roots of all worldly temptations that swerve the mind away from Self Quest. The sole purpose of this rare human birth is to attain Self Realisation. The entanglements of worldly desires not only stall the process of finding our True Self, they may trap One in "I am the body" idea, thus swaying him from his true purpose.
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, just like Gardening, the journey of Self Realisation is a process of continual weeding. Even the richest soil, if left uncultivated will produce the rankest weeds. To forget how to dig the earth and to tend the soil is to forget ourselves because Self Quest is all about Self Enquiry.
As the famous saying goes " If you tickle the earth with a hoe, she laughs with a harvest."
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, One gets huge returns on few seeds sown in the field. When sown, being within the soil One has to wait patiently to reap its rewards. Even the leaves of just sprouted crop never disappoint, as time has its own ways of revealing the Truth.
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, the height of cultivation always runs to simplicity. The ability to express the UTMOST with the MINIMUM. It is the halfway cultivation that leads to nowhere. "

"In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj comments on a whole bevy of fake 'God -men', who practice spirituality in a superficial and cosmetic sense. He says, because they miss the very essence of spirituality, they bring all their narcissistic emotional baggage to spiritual practice and hence fool the vulnerable by manipulating them for selfish reasons.

Illustrating with beautiful analogy he says, an impostor pretending enlightenment is as vainly as the effort of sowing seeds but not deeply in the soil.

Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, just like the brilliance of Gold becomes unparalleled when it is burnt in fire, so is the True Enlightenment which dawns only when One dares to roast the seeds of his ignorance in the fire of Divine Wisdom, for the Metal is then ready for the Maker's Hand."
