परउपकार घड़े तोचि भला I

जाणीवंत तोचि पायरी जाणे I
अधम तो नेणे खुंट जैसा II
हित ते अनहित केले कैसे I
तुका म्हणे पिसे लागले त्यासी II
It is said that "Real Wisdom is not the knowledge of everything, but the knowledge of which things in life are necessary, which are less necessary, and which are completely unnecessary to know."
In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj talks about a Wise who knows that the doorstep to the temple of Wisdom is a knowledge of our own ignorance. He says, the True Wisdom is achieved by keeping an open mind and a closed mouth while the ignorance is exposed by having an open mouth and a closed mind. He who knows, does not speak. He who speaks, does not know. The Wise is adept in the art of knowing what to ignore.
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, a Wise believes in the Truth propounded in the Holy Scriptures as well as in the discourses by Spiritual Masters and hence tries to emulate it in his actions, for One becomes what he believes. However an evil minded person uses the Scriptures and not their Wisdom, to swindle money in the name of ritualistic practices,
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, loving kindness and compassion are the basis for Wise.The man's true wealth is the good he does in this world. Doing good to others is a true joy to the Wise, for all that is worth the doing, is what we do for others.
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, Truly Alive is the One who recognizes the responsibility of Wisdom and acts accordingly. He says, you can give a person knowledge, but you can't make him think. Some people want to remain fools, only because the Truth requires change."
