It is said that "Seeking pleasures of life is nothing but collecting mere shells at the seashore of life. "
In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj talks about the way we pass life contemplating on "things " that are "worthless". He says, the world we inhabit is an illusory castle in air.The rare and precious human birth is like a jewel meant only for contemplation on the jewel of the Holy Ram Nam.While we are busy collecting our possessions, the jewel of life slips out of our hands. And hence Sant Tukaram Maharaj reminds us to make this precious opportunity of human birth fuitful to seek the Supreme Self and not to waste it in collecting mere shells.
Illustrating with beautiful analogy he says just like a lack of vigilance may cost dearly to the farmer as the birds feast on crops in his field, we tend to forget the evanescence of human life and get immersed in the worldly affairs and hence fail to pursue the ultimate goal of this precious human birth, the Self Realisation.
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, in the fleeting delight of materialistic mentality, One gets carried away by worldly acclaim. Attachments cloud our sense of discrimination. Only the reflective mind with the subtle sense of discrimination (विवेक बुद्धी) helps us to know the difference between Truth and Falsehood.
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says that fostering an infertile cow is like remaining attached to bodily attachments and obsessions and hence to miss the rare opportunity of this human birth, to understand something deeper, far significant and superior.
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says that just like a flawless boat cruises safely, the ocean of repeated sufferings can be transcended by a subtle boat of Divine Name with the Spiritually Wise at its helm.
Last but not the least, Sant Tukaram Maharaj says that to reap the harvest of Farm of Name Worship, One must make a conscious effort to remain absorbed in the Holy Ram Nam, the fountainhead of Knowledge of the Absolute. "
