" सोहं " is breathing process, so it is the basis of our life. The sound which springs from the confluence of our inhalation and exhalation in each and every breath reminds us of the non duality of the Supreme Consciousness, " We are not different from God ". Thus, the non dual awareness of " I am the Universal Self " is intricately connected with our breathing. Every human performs the "सोहं" in each cycle of breathing. One who does not realise this is a blind man because he lives in the darkness of worldly illusions and he will remain forever in the grip of unending cycles of death and rebirths.
In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj talks about the paramount importance of worship of God in Forum "सगुण ". He says, except for the Self Realised Soul, it is difficult or almost impossible for our intellect to grasp and understand the Eternal, all conscious and Omnipresent Divine energy expressing through "सोहं" sound. It is much easier for us to have a Divine Incarnation as a figurehead, towards whom we are able to direct our feelings. In सगुण or Form aspect, God appears in a human form making it easier for us to come closer. Incomprehensible Supreme Divine is present everywhere and meditation on sound of Holy Ram Nam is the way to realise him.
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, the Eternal Divine cannot be found in Scriptures or in the temples. Penance, Pilgrimage, breath control takes One nowhere near Him. One can seek Him only in the Holy Ram Nam.
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says that a man, who in his ignorance has lost touch with his own Self can, by incessant recital of Holy Ram Nam, able to blow of or destroy his separate, illusory and perishable identity and get absorbed in the Eternal Supreme Consciousness. Such an experience is alone the direct revelation of the Self after which One abides in One's own True Self. "
