It is said that
"An individual who can tolerate the onslaught of pleasant and unpleasant experiences is the best among men, eligible for Spiritual Liberation or Self Realisation."
In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj talks about tolerance, inculcating which One enhances his capacity to endure pain or hardship and withstand adversity and stress with poise. He says,
The noble virtue of tolerance also translates as forgiveness, so essential for contemplation and meditation. When One pursues the path of truth, there will be plenty of insults and dishonour from others. But the way out is neither intolerance nor surrender but to accept and tolerate even the most untoward circumstances.
Illustrating with beautiful analogies Sant Tukaram Maharaj says that the stone is cut to make an idol of God. Cutting the Stone is just like thinning of false ego sense to make room for noble qualities which help to conquer selfishness and sufferings in our lives. Just like brave men rejoice in adversity and brave soldiers triumph in war or a woman who accompanies her husband bravely on the funeral pyre are but the few examples of a true valour where hardships prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny.
SummIng up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says that true detachment that leads to Liberation follows from observation and analysis of One's own life. The journey of Self Realisation is all about developing control over One's mind, for only a mind through meditation and contemplation can intuit the Supreme Bliss of the Pure Being indwelling within. "
