" Mind is like a mirror. If it is dirty, One cannot see his True Self in it clearly. The impure mind is replete with excessive delusion and a host of thoughts. Lest this enemy of mind should spoil in diverse ways through the enjoyments of the worldly pleasures,One needs to slay it in the hope of getting Eternal Bliss and Spiritual Illumination. In this composition Sant Tukaram Maharaj talks about mysteries of चित्त or subconscious mind. He says, the subconscious mind is like a calm lake and thoughts are like waves upon the surface of this lake. Just like a pebble thrown in pool of water produces a succession of concentric waves travelling far, the thoughts, good or evil, emanating from the mind, gives rise to vibrations in the mental realm which travel far and wide in all directions. Evil thoughts of all kinds befoul and infuriate the mind. If persisted, it may become veritable disease and maimings of the mind, incurable during the period of life. Just as a hand holding a bouquet made of Jasmine and Rose flowers, their rich fragrance pervades the vicinage and tickles all alike, so is the aroma of piousness emanating from the the Self Realised Soul radiates to everyone in his vicinity.
Sant Tukaram Maharaj says that mental energy which is dissipated and misdirected in various worthless worldly concerns needs to be well directed in proper spiritual channels. Useless thoughts impede spiritual growth and obnoxious thoughts are stumbling blocks to spiritual advancements.
Summing up Sant Tukaram Maharaj says, through introspection One needs to water the garden of his mind with meditation and sublime thinking and remove the weeds of vain, useless discordant thoughts. "
